March 26, 1922 - July 21, 2021
Carolyn Rogers Our mom, wife, sister, adventurer, prankster and heart of gold, left this Earth on July 21, 2021. She joined her husband, Lyman, daughter Connie, her three sisters and many of her friends in heaven. Her 99 years of life on Earth was extraordinary. She grew up in the small town of Geneseo, NY. Joined the Navy during WWII where she served as an airplane mechanic bringing in planes, putting smudge pots on the runways among other duties. After her service in the Navy, she finished college, married a naval officer (our Dad) and traveled to many places including a long stay in Cuba. Eventually, she settled in Jacksonville, FL with her husband to raise their 4 daughters. Outdoor clubs and activities included the Herb Society, Audubon and the Wild Flower Club. She shared her knowledge of the outdoors with her girls through hikes, camping, canoeing and car trips to explore new places. She lead nature walks and taught flora and wildlife education to elementary school children. She also taught elementary school for many years. Bridge, card games, board games, reading (especially mysteries), travel, golf, bowling were other activities she enjoyed. She was an active member in the Methodist church; loved Bible Study and Sunday school and hardly missed a Sunday service. Her church friends were precious to her. Her love of travel lead her to take her four girls on a whirlwind summer trip around the US. What a trip that was! Her adventurous spirit and variety of interests inspired her daughters to be a lot like her. She loved her family and will be missed by her 3 daughters, Chanda Rogers, Lorie Rogers and Lee Ann Rogers. Her grandchildren, Kelley Gilbert, Summer Patterson and Daniel Rossie. And her 5 great grandchildren. Some of our favorite memories: The exploding golf ball, making paper napkin May baskets, canoe paddling lessons, trip across the country (our favorite), pepper in the cookies for April Fools Day, short sheeting our beds, dressing up on Halloween so we hardly recognized her, cake decorating classes, our big Christmases, trips to Sarasota to visit our grandmother, trip to Geneseo, float trips down the Ichetucknee River before it became a state park, the many camping trips, swimming lessons at the Glynlea Pool. Thank you mom for all you did for us. We had a great childhood. Most of all, her generosity, honesty, love of life and love of learning inspired us. Mom we love you and will see you again someday. Love, Chanda, Lorie and Lee Ann
