Catherine Maier McQuade

November 18, 1932 - January 9, 2017

Obituary Catherine Ducros Maier McQuade left this world on January 9, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Catherine, Katie, KT, Cookie, Mama was born in New Orleans on November 18, 1932, the second daughter of Carleton Maier and Clelie Ducros, both deceased. She has an older sister, Clelie Ducros, of New Orleans and a younger sister, Margaret Kadlecek, of Austin, TX. She was married to Frederick McQuade, who lives in Jefferson City, TN, for over fifty years. She had four sons: Daniel, Carleton, Marcel and Paul. Marcel died in 2007. She has one grandson, Micky McQuade, and two great grandchildren, Harrison and Will McQuade; two nieces, Cece Funck and Elizabeth Fox; and, two nephews, Chris and Daniel Kadlecek. Katie worked for many years as a legal and executive secretary in New Orleans, Portland, Oregon and Memphis. A lifelong Democrat and longtime supporter of civil and women's rights, she was proud of her work in labor relations. She loved everything New Orleans until the day she died, including shrimping in Lake Pontchartrain, crawfishing, streetcars, Mardi Gras, red beans and rice and Louis Armstrong. She and Fred enjoyed raising and showing Great Danes, renovating old houses and buying antiques. She was an excellent cook, a whiz at Scrabble, played piano and made beautiful hand-stitched quilts. For several years, she raised pygmy goats and took great pride in her goat cheese. The family would like to thank her many caregivers at Regency's Memory Care Unit. Their gentle care helped her transition from this life to the next. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date and her ashes will be returned to New Orleans. A lifelong dog lover and supporter of Noah's Arc animal rescue, donations in Katie's memory may be made to Noah's Arc, Inc. PO Box 1031, Talbott, TN 37877.
