November 10, 1955 - December 29, 2021
Kay Anne Bayless Turner (66) died in her Oak Ridge home December 29, 2021 after an 8 year battle with cancer. She was born November 10, 1955 in Knoxville, moving to Oak Ridge in 1964. She was proud to consider it her hometown, serving as a cheerleader on competition-winning teams at JJHS and ORHS. She later used these gifts coaching Girls Inc. softball and basketball for 13 years. Young women all over town still know her as “Mama Kay.” Kay was saved at a Billy Graham Crusade in 1970, later going on to found a Bible Club at JJHS. She renewed her faith while carrying her first child in 1980, forming a lifelong commitment to ministry and spreading the love of Jesus to everyone she met. Her marriage to Rev. Noel Turner saw them ministering side by side with a shared passion to see others experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and His Word, both locally and in other states. Throughout her cancer journey she encouraged others, reminding them that all was not lost. She loved deeply and encouraged warmly, inspiring the same affection. She was preceded in death by her parents William Jefferson Bayless and Myrtleen Richmond Bayless Sheldon; half-sister Barbara Bayless Pruitt; step-father George T.E. Sheldon; and beloved husband of 28 years Noel Turner. She is survived by sister Linda Bayless (Kingston); 3 children from her marriage with Roger Edwards (Oak Ridge): Commander Luke Edwards and Ashley (Lemoore, CA); Ian Edwards and Leann (Memphis); Elise Peek and Robert (Oak Ridge). She is also survived by her step-son, of her marriage with Rev. Noel Turner, Shane Turner and Lynette (Crossville); daughters Haylee Reynolds and Tom; Emily Cárdenas and Elio (both of Oak Ridge); grandchildren Rylee and Gabriel Edwards; Zoe Brady; Sophie and Stephanie Turner; Cannon Edwards; Aurora Reynolds; and step-grandchildren Brandon Peek; Karis, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, and Logan Davis. Receiving of Friends will be held Saturday January 15 at New Life Church of the Nazarene from 10 am – 11:30 am, memorial service following.
